Matthew woke us up this morning 5:30... with winds in the low 30 knots - blowing the thatching off the base camp roof - sheets of rain .... the decision was made ... leave the base and head to a cement hotel (also Moorings needed to work on the boat) ... arrived about 10:30 - sat around for an hour - took a walk - surf was over the road - flooding the edge of the peninsula - ripping the dock apart where we use to keep Companion - we went in search of lunch - rested and waited - then the sun came out the surf was as calm as ever - all within two hours - really crazy - it is now a lovely evening - no humidity - no wind - no rain and calm seas..... we are in need of a beer and dinner - looking forward to tomorrow.... what a way to start this journey....

Welcome to the voyage of the Oldis' as we sail from Belize to Seattle on our 40 foot Leopard Catamaran, SV Companion.
A short history of SV Companion -
In April of 2005, Kim and I signed an agreement to purchase a Leopard Catamaran and place it in the Moorings Charter Program for 5 years.
Buying the last 40' Catamaran built in 2005 by Robinson and Caine of South Africa, the boat was to be chartered in Placencia, Belize. It arrived in Belize in late November, and was used by Moorings Chartering until June of 2010. During that time, we were able to sail our boat many times, and have a few charters in other parts of the world; LaPaz Mexico, Abaco Bahama, British Virgin Islands, Nice France, Gocek Turkey (Turquoise Coast).
Max , our nephew and his dad, Mike will be joining, Kim and I for part of the voyage. We are also looking forward to meeting family and friends along the way.
Our blog is intended to share our journey, memories and information to sailors.
Enjoy, Dale & Kim
PS: 10 years after the start of our voyage, we are living in LaConner with SV Companion and the adventure continues.
Whew! Glad you found a dry place to wait out the wind and rain.
ReplyDeleteRose and I got the update on you two from Emily on Friday. So glad to hear you're well. We now have your blog bookmarked. Thanks for updating us.
