A short history of SV Companion -
In April of 2005, Kim and I signed an agreement to purchase a Leopard Catamaran and place it in the Moorings Charter Program for 5 years.

Buying the last 40' Catamaran built in 2005 by Robinson and Caine of South Africa, the boat was to be chartered in Placencia, Belize. It arrived in Belize in late November, and was used by Moorings Chartering until June of 2010. During that time, we were able to sail our boat many times, and have a few charters in other parts of the world; LaPaz Mexico, Abaco Bahama, British Virgin Islands, Nice France, Gocek Turkey (Turquoise Coast).

Max , our nephew and his dad, Mike will be joining, Kim and I for part of the voyage. We are also looking forward to meeting family and friends along the way.

Our blog is intended to share our journey, memories and information to sailors.

Enjoy, Dale & Kim

PS: 10 years after the start of our voyage, we are living in LaConner with SV Companion and the adventure continues.

Montrachet and Her Captain!

Montrachet and Captain Terry were super neighbors!  Terry's schedule was one that had him on the move right after we got back from our little hiatus (he went to New York and we were in Seattle) ... his goal -  to be in Rhode Island by June.  Marina Papagayo was really so much more enjoyable with this sailor!!

Dale and I were sad to see Terry leave - You all know how much I like to have spontaneous friends come over and visit … sharing stories and life together.  His easy going and accepting ways were exactly what we needed ... plus he had an excellent wine cellar … a comfortable Midwest personality!!

The morning that Terry was to head out - repairs had been made, his frig fixed and stocked properly - diesel tanks filled to the brim …. I am sure he was anxious to “get the show on the road” … He left the marina as the Papagayo winds were blowing gusts of 35+ …. said a quick little prayer for him and away he went …

Dan, the marina manager and Dale help Terry prepare for the launch

We will look forward to hearing about his progress - his vessel has cell and email available all times - so hopefully he will keep us posted as he sails thru the Caribbean and up north.

Montrachet  &  Captain Terry       47’  Hylas

But more importantly -  we know that someday our paths will cross again … The "Commodore" (as Terry affectionately named Dale) and I to Rhode Island to sail into the scenic bay with the old mansions and up to New York past our beautiful Lady Liberty … can’t imagine what she looks like from a sailboat!!
Then Terry will come and share the San Juan’s and the Pacific NW with us. …
The adventures are limitless - even if has to be on a catamaran!

Thanks Terry for sharing Papagayo with us  …
