A short history of SV Companion -
In April of 2005, Kim and I signed an agreement to purchase a Leopard Catamaran and place it in the Moorings Charter Program for 5 years.

Buying the last 40' Catamaran built in 2005 by Robinson and Caine of South Africa, the boat was to be chartered in Placencia, Belize. It arrived in Belize in late November, and was used by Moorings Chartering until June of 2010. During that time, we were able to sail our boat many times, and have a few charters in other parts of the world; LaPaz Mexico, Abaco Bahama, British Virgin Islands, Nice France, Gocek Turkey (Turquoise Coast).

Max , our nephew and his dad, Mike will be joining, Kim and I for part of the voyage. We are also looking forward to meeting family and friends along the way.

Our blog is intended to share our journey, memories and information to sailors.

Enjoy, Dale & Kim

PS: 10 years after the start of our voyage, we are living in LaConner with SV Companion and the adventure continues.

Maxwell's are in our house!

Of course being close to the international airport - Liberia, CR is a great thing when we are lucky enough to have friends just able to “pop in!”

Buddy and Paula arrived for a very fast four night stay on Companion … they have “history” on this boat - it is with them that we first set sail in Belize on Companion … so it was absolutely a thrill to have them back on board …
Chillin' on the front deck!

It was good to see them both relax and enjoy the local flavor and countryside with us - enjoying the cuisine is easy for Paula - I don’t think she ever fills up!

A day of relaxation at the pool and "wind down" time from their busy schedules and flights...

Quiet time ....

Then off for a day sail - Captain Dale made sure Buddy was able to put the fishing pole in the water and we girls just got caught up on everything!  Non stop chatting!!  It was like we were never apart - I love that about friendships!! We talked so much we didn’t even have time for a game of Rummicube and we had always played that at home in Glen Ellyn together - oh well - next time!

Gettin' ready to toss in the line!

You may not know this about Paula - but she likes to try new handwork projects and once in a great while she might get one finished.  I am proud to say that she in now a member of the “Companion Embroidery and Knitting Guild” … she started determined and did complete her first embroidery project … I think she even like doing it … so with great pride I honoring her with “The Most Improved Guild Member Award!”
(Remember once a coach’s wife; always a coach’s wife!)

Working diligently ... with a smile on her face!

Completed!!!  That's my girl!!

Buddy refreshed and reinvigorated ...

Looks like an "Old Salt" to me!

After spending two winters and many months on board Companion it is great that we are able to share "her" with our friends who saw the process from “the dream to reality” !
Thanks Buddy and Paula for supporting Dale’s dream and sharing the expereince ... see you in the NW!
Just remember to bring your fleece!
